There are thousands of them, offered by schools, employers, individuals, private companies, nonprofits, communities, religious groups, and professional and social organizations. Students are encouraged to apply for local, state and community scholarship through the Career Center website. Scholarships are awarded based on merit, ethnic background, community service, leadership, and personal interests regardless of financial need.
Students can be searching and applying for scholarships while they are applying to colleges.
If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is! Most scholarships awarded are between $200 – $2,500. Do your research into an organization and look for previous scholarship recipients. If in doubt talk to a trusted adult and trust yourself if it doesn’t feel right, it most likely isn’t.
